<image:title>Light Paints on Snow - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Light Paints on Snow mixed-media installation with kiln glass, aluminum, steel cable and fasteners This work features the beauty of colour and glass and the magical qualities of the winter sun and snow. In our northern winters the atmosphere and the sky-space become charged, the landscape becomes simpler and purer, and both lighting and shadows become more prominent. Cables of coloured art glass are held up against the sky so as to catch the sun’s rays, turning the pieces of glass into sparkling jewels and casting coloured shadows onto the white canvas of the snowy ground. As the sun changes position in the sky, the shadows too change shape and position, creating an installation of ever-changing patterns. In this photo the sculpture is shown against an overcast sky. <image:title>The Looking Place - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>‘The Looking Place’, Concept model, Yellow Ribbon Greenway Public Art Seating Node I was selected to work as the artist with landscape architects at HTFC to design a seating node for an informal viewing area under the Winnipeg airportʼs main flight path, where it intersects with the Greenway path. Our goal was to create a sense of place by creating a design which fused art and landscape together as one. The concept was inspired by our experience of the site, where we found ourselves wishing we could get up higher for a better view and also wanting shelter from the wind. At the same time we wanted to highlight the openness of the sky and the prairie. I was taken with the colourful and fantastic-looking runway lighting towers, windsocks, and airfield markers; this inspired something of a 'Dr. Seuss meets the Airfield' approach. A flowing movement can be seen throughout the overall design, recalling the way air moves over and around wings in flight and the way the wind moves through the prairie. The design is anchored around a sculptural shaping of the land. Various seating elements are set in and around the landform and its supporting walls. Whimsical wind-socks and kinetic sculptures show the power and direction of the wind, while plantings of wildflowers and native grasses wave and rustle in the breeze. The curving wing-walls in burnished aluminum are like a patchwork in metal; a collage of interesting scraps of old airplane panels, stylized aviation symbols, and ideas about flight and about looking. The use of silvery metal helps to integrate the intervention into the site, which contains a large amount of chain link fencing and industrial lighting towers. Playful pavement markings point to destinations near and far, picking up on the theme of navigation. copyright 2024 all rights reserved</image:caption>

      <image:title>Lightscape / Snowscape - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Lightscape / Snowscape Artwork for a custom-made wool carpet for Canada House in London, England. Based on photographs of sunlight falling onto snow, this artwork brings Manitoba’s beautiful winter light and expansive landscape to London. The artwork was derived from a series of photographs I took on a walk through my neighbourhood one winter. Freshly fallen snow serves as a pristine canvas for the play of light and shadow. What could seem like a dull, empty expanse comes alive as the sun moves through the sky. The bright midday sun creates crisp forms on the snowy carpet and casts an ethereal glow in soothing shades of blue-violet. The winter landscape is a simple one yet there is much to see if we make the effort to look. Just as the snow forms a soft carpet across the land, I wanted my images of snow-covered prairie to cover the ground beneath one’s feet in the Manitoba Room. copyright 2024 all rights reserved</image:caption>

<image:title>A Mending Map - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>A Mending Map Inspired by the wisdom of our grandmothers and of my Métis ancestors, this tapestry pays homage to them. I have such admiration for the patience and humility behind their acts of repair and care, and their respect for resources. Even small bits of materials were valued and saved to be reused, which added to the rich patina and sense of soul imbued in their handcrafted objects. This hand-stitched piece also speaks to the importance of mending. Everyday objects regularly need mending, yet contemporary society is more inclined to disposability and discard. Few people have the patience and skills to mend and repair, which has led to burgeoning landfills and environmental crises. Our relationships need regular care and mending too; our personal relationships, our community and social relationships, and our relationships to the land and to nature. Damage occurs and must be repaired; reconciliation must take place and trust must be established or rebuilt. How can we find our way through to new relationships of respect and of connection? In looking to the old ways as maps, we can uncover remnants of wisdom still available to us. By tuning into intuitive ways of knowing, we can bridge the gaps left by what has been lost. Piecing it all together we can create a sort of patchwork map, incomplete and imperfect, yet real and comforting. repurposed wool, cotton, thread, leather, beads Copyright 2024 All Rights Reserved</image:caption>

<image:title>Poems for the Imagination - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Poems for the Imagination, #1 wood, paint, aluminum, ribbon, leather cord, found objects I’ve always had a love for objects and materials. I’m especially drawn to offcuts, discards, and scraps - seeing the character, beauty, and potential in each small piece salvaged. This is the first in a series of 3-dimensional tableaux; the tableaux give me a way to engage with some of my collection of objects and validate them through arrangement and display. I see these collections of objects as object-galleries and as abstract poems for the imagination. copyright 2024 all rights reserved</image:caption>

<image:caption>Colour Fields, Melting kiln glass, painted wood base Experimenting with a new fusing method gave a melted look to the contours of the coloured glass shapes and the outside edges of this kiln-formed work. Air bubbles capture the light to animate the piece, while the simple design lets the colour fields sing. copyright 2024 all rights reserved</image:caption>
